Who benefits from our program? Children from kindergarten through high school who want to improve their self-confidence and interrelationships will find the program both challenging and supportive. Developing an inner-peace and increased happiness is the ultimate goal. Karate Life Skills teaches the classical hero’s journey and the warrior’s code of life. These are lessons that have been used for centuries and develop courage and compassion. Does it really work? Studies have shown that karate actually decreases aggressiveness while increasing focus and building a more positive self-image. Children in this program also become more disciplined in other areas of their lives, e.g. at school and home. Students feel better about themselves and have a more positive attitude toward life. The training is both physically and mentally challenging, emphasizing focus and concentration, strength and endurance, flexibility and speed, cooperation with peers, and control and timing of breath and body. After the physical training the group will have a discussion that will blend the karate experience and philosophies with a discussion about the Hero's Journey and Warrior’s Code of Life. Paul Sweetow, knowing each child, tailors these lessons to fit with the pertinent issues that the child is facing. In this way, each participant will enhance both mind and body.
